Ambikapur. Surguja Police secured a great victory on the illegal drug trade today. A special team of policemen raided a hotel in the city and arrested a supplier; they recovered drugs worth rupees fourteen lakh from him. The police also seized drugs worth rupees three lakh from the house of youth and arrested him. The accused used to come here from Bihar and supply drugs. Not only this, but medicines were also sent directly by the accused to their customers through courier.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday, CSP S S Panckera explained that the police had received information that a man from Bihar has been visiting the city for long to sell drugs, and is currently staying at Maya Lodge near the bus stand. Following the information, a team led by ASP Om Chandel and CSP SS Pankera raided Maya Lodge. During the bust, the police arrested a resident of Bihar, Shivshankar Barnwal, from a hotel room along with a large number of drugs, stuffed in cartons. The accused confessed during the interrogation that he had been doing this business for almost twenty years. He supplied drugs across the district; the police had been looking for him for the last four years.
The accused himself used to come to supply drugs, and many times he also supplied drugs through courier. Fifty years old Shivshankar Prasad alias Pappu Barnwal, a resident of Gaya Civil Line police station, has been arrested under the NDPS Act. The police seized many drugs in capsules, vials and injections from him. They also caught thirty-five-year-old Chhotu alias Mohammad Usaid, a resident of Nawagarh in the city after questioning the accused Pappu Barnwal. Police raided the young man's house and recovered 15,000 capsules of alprazolam, 2880 capsules of Ispamo from him. The price of the seized drug is estimated to be around three lakh rupees. According to the police, Pappu Barnwal used to supply illegal-drugs to Usaid too, and only a few days back, Pappu gave him these medicines to sell, which the police have recovered.
