Raipur: In a major setback for Janata Congress Chhattisgarh (JCCJ), senior party leader and former MLA RK Rai joined BJP along with his 150 supporters.
Rai, who was considered close to JCC supremo and former chief minister of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi, was given the membership of the saffron party by the state in charge D Purandeswari. Rai was not politically active since the last 3 years.
During the Bharatiya Janata Party's State Working Committee meeting in Raipur, RK Rai reached the state office and joined BJP with his 150 supporters and swore allegiance to the BJP.
He was close to Ajit Jogi and left the Congress party after Jogi formed his party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh. In the 2013 assembly elections, RK Rai won from Gunderdehi assembly constituency on Congress ticket.
In the 2018 assembly elections, JCC also fielded him from the Gunderdehi assembly constituency. However, Rai lost the elections with only 8648 votes in his share.
