Raipur. The state has started preparations for administering COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available. The selection of 29731 places and 8931 vaccinators for this is complete. The Health Department has six-hundred-thirty cold storage points for transportation of vaccination, and eighty new cold storage points are under development. The government is also trying to increase the number of vaccinators and are training male health workers for that. For the preservation of other vaccine-related material like syringes and other necessary products, dry store places are already decided at district, regional and state-level. State-level Steering Committee will monitor and coordinate the vaccination process.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel also attended a virtual meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the coronavirus crisis. After the meet, Health Minister T S Singhdeo announced they had specially questioned about the vaccine to the Centre. When the vaccine becomes available, the Health Minister stated that the frontline workers and those who come under fifty to seventy age bracket might receive it first. The Health Minister also dismissed the possibility of another lockdown asserting that Chhattisgarh has a low positivity rate. He added that for places like Mainpat and Raipur, which have shown a spike, the respective Collectors have the authority to make decisions as needed.
