Raipur.  The two major stalwarts of Congress in Chhattisgarh – CM Bhupesh Baghel and Health Minister T S Singhdeo – may be given national duty.

Keeping the ongoing rift between the two leaders aside, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Health Minister T S Singhdeo have reportedly joined hands to work together in the party interest as the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are imminent. The duo had a marathon meeting with former AICC president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Tuesday. Sources said that either of the two leaders may be seen on national duty for the party. However, the future is still murky.

According to information, both CM Bhagel and Health Minister Singhdeo had come out with all smiles after the meeting with Rahul Gandhi. However, they avoided media.

It is worthwhile to mention, the formula suggested by the national leadership during the formation of the Congress government in the state has become a bone of contention after two and a half years of Bhupesh Baghel's regime in the state. Reportedly the national leadership decided to adopt two and a half year formula for the post of Chief Minister in Chhattisgarh, with Singhdeo in the race of Chief Minister. While Singhdeo had been demanding the chair of Chief Minister after two and a half years tenure of Baghel, the latter denies that the national leadership suggested such a formula.

Congress has 70 seats out of 90, and most of the MLAs are satisfied with Baghel, who completed two and a half years on June 17. However, the dissident MLAs had been silently making efforts for a leadership change in the state.

Meanwhile, after returning from Delhi this evening, CM Baghel told media on Wednesday that he had a long discussion with top leaders of the party on the development of the state.  And the issue of power-sharing did not figure at all in the meeting. He candidly said that if the party high command asks him to take over any other responsibility, he would do so immediately.

Baghel also met AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal and Chhattisgarh In-charge P L Punia before coming to Raipur.
