Bilaspur. During the monsoon session of the state held in the last week of July, State Health Minister TS Singhdeo had introduced the Chandralal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College (Acquisition) Bill located in Durg, Chhattisgarh. The bill got passed despite protests from the opposition parties. The government had said about the bill at that time that we have decided in the student interest. Now the High Court Bilaspur has issued notice to Indian Bank, including all the 13 Board of Directors of the college. The next hearing is after three weeks. Amit Chandrakar of Durg describes himself as the great-grandson of Chandulal Chandrakar. He has filed a petition in the High Court through his advocate Gunjan Tiwari. It states that in 1982, Mangal Prasad Chandrakar planned to build a hospital on the land located on GE Road in Durg. For this, government land was leased after due process. On this land, the Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Hospital begun functioning. After some time, the Board of Directors mortgaged the hospital land to get a loan from Indian Bank to open a medical college. The foundation of Medical College is at Kachandur, Durg, with the loan amount received from the bank. One of the lease conditions was that the land can neither get sold, mortgaged, or transferred. But the bank passed the loan and then, on non-payment of dues, tried to sell it. This is illegal as the land belongs to the government. The board of directors may have conspired with the bank to commit fraud.
