Raipur. “I will step down as Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh if Congress president Sonia Gandhi and former president Rahul Gandhi ask me,” said Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on his arrival at Swami Vivekananda Airport on Wednesday, after he met with Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday.
The instant reaction of Chief Minister Baghel was that Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have given him the responsibility to lead the state, and he will continue as long as they want him.
“I will quit the post of Chief Minister unconditional immediately after Sonia and Rahul ask me to do this,” Chief Minister Baghel told media. Those who chant raga of two and a half year power-sharing formula want to create an impasse in the state, and they will not succeed, said the Chief Minister.
The sole intention of some people in the state is to bring instability within the party. He said that State Congress In-charge P L Punia had already denied any possibility of two and a half year formula.
Baghel told reporters that he had a meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal and State In-charge P L Punia in New Delhi.
He discussed development issues related to Chhattisgarh with Rahul Gandhi and apprised the leaders about the situation prevailing in the state.
To a query, Baghel said that the BJP knows the reality. The BJP had ruled the state for 15 years, after which they got reduced to just 14 seats in the state. Congress government in Chhattisgarh is working for the welfare of farmers, labourers and tribal, and is doing a good job for the development of the state, Baghel said.
Sources meanwhile claimed that Chief Minister Baghel reached the AICC headquarters at 11.15 am to meet KC Venugopal at his office before his departure from Delhi. He discussed the political development in the state, and their meeting lasted for about 2:30 hours.
The meeting of Rahul Gandhi with Baghel and Singhdeo had lasted for around three hours on Tuesday.
Singhdeo, who was in Delhi on Wednesday, is likely to return to Raipur on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Congress party sources claimed that Rahul Gandhi had warned both leaders to end the dispute immediately and run the government smoothly. If the dispute in Chhattisgarh Congress for the top post continues, the Congress high command will think over a leadership change in Chhattisgarh is what the caution is for now.
