Chhattisgarh govt declares dry day on Janmashtami, liquor and meat shops to remain closed on Monday

Raipur: In a major decision, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to declare dry day on the occasion of Janmashtami. The government on Sunday issued an order to keep liquor and non-vegetarian shops completely closed on Monday.

Meanwhile, the preparations are on full swing across the state to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna. Special tableaux are being prepared in various temples. The government has taken a big decision regarding this festival. This is the first time that the sale of liquor has been completely stopped on Janmashtami. An order has also been issued to keep the non-vegetarian shops closed.

Senior officials said that such orders were issued only on national festivals and on some special occasions till now. This is the first time this has happened on Krishna Janmashtami. This has been done keeping in mind the sentiments of the devotees.
