Private hosp will not charge any money to keep corona patient's dead body safe

Raipur: Private hospitals in the state will not charge any money from the family for keeping dead body safe of patient who has died due to Covid-19.

The Chhattisgarh State Branch of Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Hospital Board have taken this decision on Sunday. The health department had allowed a maximum of Rs 2500 to keep the corpse of corona patients safe.

Chhattisgarh State Branch of IMA president Dr Mahesh Sinha said that the health department had allowed private hospitals to take Rs 2500 to keep the body in a safe bag in the event of the death of a corona-infected patient. A proposal was made before Indian Medical Association and the Hospital Board not to charge this amount too and it has been accepted by all. From now on, no private hospital will take this amount from the patient's family after the death of the corona patient.

Meanwhile, an order to take to take a maximum of Rs 2500 for handling, storage and management of the corpse after death of corona patient was issued by the health department last year in December. This was done after frequent complaints being received that private hospitals were taking more money from the relatives of the deceased.

The order received a strong reaction from the opposition BJP with the saffron party leaders stating that the government is recovering money from the corona patient even after death.

The opposition was under attack since the order came into force. BJP leaders said, even after the death of the government, Corona is recovering money from patients.
