Raipur. Students of Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College, Durg and their parents today paid a courtesy call on Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel at his residence office. They thanked Chief Minister for the state government’s initiative to secure their future by acquiring the college. The decision of the state government is historic in the interest of the students, said the parents. “Children are our future, and state government will make every possible effort for their progress”, said Chief Minister.
It is worth mentioning that 180 students of the 2017 batch are in their fourth year at Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College, Durg. The Medical Education Department of Chhattisgarh issued an order to re-allocate the children to other recognized medical colleges on the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Dr Rakesh Gupta informed Chief Minister that around 300 medical students of the pre-2017 batch are completing their internship and will appear for PG NEET. He said that the future of 480 students is now secure with this initiative of the Chhattisgarh government. Medical student Akshat thanked Chief Minister for the decision to re-allocate MBBS students of the college. He requested that students be allowed to do an internship in Government District Hospitals and Community Health Centers of their home district. Dr Rakesh Gupta said that MCI permits private medical colleges only when the state government assures in writing to protect the student interests in this college. In many states, the state government has taken such steps to secure students future in case the recognition of private medical colleges gets revoked. He also referred to the decision of the Supreme Court in the case of Uttarakhand, which said that the state government is morally responsible for securing the future of medical students.
The Government of Chhattisgarh decided to acquire Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College, Durg, in student interest and to expand medical education in the state. Usually, it takes about Rs 500 crore and a lot of time to develop infrastructure such as a medical college. But with the acquisition of Chandulal Chandrakar Memorial Medical College, Durg, recognized by the Medical Council of India, people and students of the state will be able to get the benefit of another government medical college at less than half the cost. Students and parents, including Dr Basant Anchal, Dr Praveen Chandrakar, Dr Chattar Singh, Dr Rupal Purohit, Vishwajit Mitra, Dr Akshat Tiwari, were present on this occasion.
