Mungeli. Richa Jogi, the daughter-in-law of former late Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, has had her caste certificate suspended. A District Investigation Committee suspended her caste certificate. Appearing on behalf of the district investigation committee, ADM Nashine said, "The Investigation Committee had asked Richa Rupali Sadhu to submit records and replies regarding her caste certificate. The committee found her reply unsatisfactory and suspended her caste certificate."
On the suspension of Richa Jogi's caste certificate in the Marwahi by-election, Amit Jogi reacted by declaring that "The government wants to prevent my family from contesting elections, anyhow."
The state government has constituted a committee at the district level to investigate the caste certificates, and the committee has the right to suspend the caste certificate, not to revoke it.
Although the Mungeli District Administration Committee made the decision public a little while ago; there were strong indications that eventually the investigation committee would suspend the caste certificate of Richa Jogi. And that they will not give her any extra time to hand over the records.
Amit said that in compliance with the amendment made by the Chhattisgarh government on September 24 2020, in the Chhattisgarh Scheduled Castes Tribes and Other Backward Classes Act 2013, the Mungeli District Caste Verification Committee has the right to suspend the caste certificate not revoke it. The Election Officer has no other statutory option but to accept her nomination letter.
Amit Jogi said that he has already filed a petition in the High Court in this regard and has also informed the Chief Election Commissioner.
