Raipur: Veteran Congress leader Motilal Vora, who served as chief minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh twice and as Governor of Uttar Pradesh once as Governor of Uttar Pradesh once, passed away on Monday at the age of 93.
Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed profound grief on the sad demise of Vora. Paying a humble tribute to late Vora, Baghel said that his demise is an irreparable loss to not only Chhattisgarh but to entire Congress family. “We have lost a guardian”.
He started his political career from scratch and made his way to the national level. He was a dedicated member of Congress party all his life. Chief minister said that-“Babuji Shri Vora was one of the important people in my life, from whom I had learned a lot about politics”. Baghel prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace and deeply empathized with the grief-stricken family of Vora.
Baghel said that it was yesterday when Babu Ji’s 93rd birthday was celebrated. No one expected this tragic news today. He said that as chief minister of undivided Madhya Pradesh, Vora had made an immense contribution to the all-round development of the then Chhattisgarh region. He had started his public life in journalism. In the year 1968, Vora was elected as Corporator of Durg Municipal Corporation. In the year 1972, he was elected as Congress MLA for the first time. Later, in years 1977 and 1980 again, he was elected as MLA. The then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Arjun Singh had appointed him as Cabinet Minister. He served as Chief Minister undivided Madhya Pradesh twice. He had also rendered his services as Governor of Uttar Pradesh and as Union Minister.
Chhattisgarh Governor Anusuiya Uikey also expressed deep grief over the demise of Motilal Vora saying that Vora was soft-spoken, simple and gentle personality. He worked for the society till the last time and his death has caused irreparable damage to the country. He prayed to God for the peace of his soul and expressed deep condolences to his family.
Besides, cabinet ministers and other Congress party leaders of Chhattisgarh paid their heartfelt tribute to the departed soul. Health minister TS Singh Deo took to Twitter saying “With the sad demise of Shri @MotilalVora ji Congress has lost one of its most dedicated soldiers. His passing has left a void in Indian politics which can never be filled. My deepest condolences to his family and lakhs of Congress karyakartas who are saddened by his passing as I join their mourning. May his soul rest in peace.”
Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee chief Mohan Markam wrote on his official Twitter handle “The ‘Vatavriksha’ of the Congress party, under whose shade we all grew up, we all learned to walk holding his finger, our Babuji Shri Motilal Vora ji is no longer among us. His departure is a personal, family and national loss. May his soul rest in peace. The Congress family is abandoned today.”
Meanwhile, as per official sources many senior congress leaders including MP Rahul Gandhi, Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, former chief minister of and Madhya Pradesh Kamalnath will participate in the last rites of Motilal Vora going to be held in Durg tomorrow.
Besides, three-day State Mourning from December 21 to 23 has been declared by Chhattisgarh Government on the sad demise of Motilal Vora. In this duration of state-mourning, national flags hoisted on government buildings will remain half bent and no entertainment or the cultural programme will be organized. State Government has also decided that the last rites of Shri Vora would be performed with state honour. General Administration Department has issued order in the context from Mantralaya (Mahanadi Bhavan).
