CG govt may allow use of Covaxin, Health min to take its dose after recovering from corona

Raipur: Chhattisgarh government may allow use of indigenous Covaxin in the ongoing corona vaccination campaign.

Health minister TS Singh Deo said that the use of Covaxin will be optional and the people are free to decide whether they want to get a shot of the same. The doses will only be given in Government Medical Colleges and District Hospitals where a separate counter will be set up for the same.

Deo said that he would take a shot of the Covaxin once he recovers from corona. “As soon as I recover from a corona infection and qualify for vaccination, I will take my first dose of Covaxin. We are proud of our indigenous vaccine, but firmly believe that due process needs to be followed as per international norms before it is put into general use. Now, in India, the Drug Controller General (DCGI) has upgraded the Covaxin from the clinical trial stage. However, the final data for Phase III trials has not been published yet. We are seriously considering allowing a Covaxin for those who want to opt for it”, said the minister.

The health minister said that health of the people of the state is the top priority of the state government. There is no shortage of vaccines for our people in the state at any given moment. Chhattisgarh has also been among the five best states in the nationwide vaccination campaign.

The state BJP has once again demanded to allow the use of Covaxin in state in the view of surge in number of corona cases. The saffron party has alleged that people are losing their lives, but the opposition government is ignoring the situation and trying to oppose use of the indigenous vaccine. The party has stated that it is the high time that the state government should allow use of Covaxin made available by the central government.

Congress state secretary and spokesperson Vikas Tiwari said, BJP leaders doing politics on the vaccine are keeping themselves away from the vaccine. Former Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik, Former Minister Brijmohan Agrawal and other BJP MLAs, senior RSS leaders have also kept away from vaccination and Covaxin vaccines. They are the same BJP leaders who were praising the Covaxin.

Meanwhile, the state government has not allowed the use of Covaxin sent to state due to its unfinished third phase trials. Health Minister TS Singh Deo had earlier written a letter to the Central Government requesting not to send the Covaxin until the positive results of the trial came.
