Funeral of a doctor becomes talk of the town

Raipur: The death of a doctor posted at a Covid Hospital in Baloda Bazaar district of Chhattisgarh and subsequently his funeral has become the talk of the town for violation of Covid protocols, that too in the presence of District Collector Sunil Kumar Jain, the Superintendent of Police and Chief Medical and Health Officer. These senior officials among others attended the funeral that witnessed more than 20 people, in violation of Covid guidelines.

According to information, Dr. Shailendra Sahu died mysteriously on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. He had gotten his Covid test done before he breathed his last and the report came positive. The reason behind his death was said to be Corona.

The doctor keeps on rending his service even after the positive report

According to Health Department Officials, Dr. Sahu had got his test done around 12 noon and the report came positive. Dr. Shau took a round of the wards till 2.30 and came in contact with other doctors and nurses. He should have isolated himself immediately after the positive report, said the officials. When hospital staff went to wake him up in the morning, he found the doctor dead.

 Thousands attended the funeral of Dr. Sahu

After the post-mortem of the body of Dr. Sahu, his body was sent to Mahadev Ghaat in Raipur for last rites. Thousands of people including doctors, staff, nurses participated in the funeral. Even police officials reached the venue.

NO mask, no social distancing!

While the body of Dr. Sahu, kept in an ambulance decorated with flowers, was rolling towards Mahadev Ghat, thousands of people were seen following the vehicle without wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Staff sitting in the ambulance with the body did not even wear a PPE kit. On the other hand, relatives were not allowed to see Dr. Sahu. Such negligence in the implementation of the Covid protocol has raised several eyebrows. When 20 people are allowed in the funeral and last rites, the presence of thousands raised fingers towards the administration.

Dr. Sahu was a popular figure

Dr. Sailendra Sahu had been rendering his services at Covid Hospital of Baloda Bazaar for the last one and a half years and he dedicatedly worked to give the best treatment to his patients. The young and affable Dr. Sahu became popular among his patients for his dedication. Not only the common man, politicians, but officials have also expressed grief over the death of Dr. Sahu.
