Raipur: A sedition case has been filed against suspended ADG of Chhattisgarh GP Singh late on Thursday. This is being reported as the first case of sedition in the state against an IPS officer.
As per police sources, during the ACB raid, some letters and pen drives were found from the official bungalow of the ADG. After their investigation, an FIR has been registered in City Kotwali police station under section 124A of IPC which deals with sedition and section 154A.
According to the police, things which have been written in the letters and documents found during the raid, are directly pointing towards the conspiracy against the government. Apart from the letter, there are some pages of the diary, in which there are serious objectionable remarks about some people, which the police are assuming that an attempt has been made to spread disharmony in the society.
Meanwhile, acting on a tip off, the ACB raided 15 places including the government bungalow of ADG GP Singh at Police Lines at 6 am on July 1 to investigate disproportionate assets. During the continuous investigation that lasted for about 64 hours, the ACB team came to know about his disproportionate assets worth about Rs 10 crore. There were indications of anti-government activities from the diary pages and documents extracted from pen drives. The ACB had handed over the details of the pages of the diary and the documents extracted from the pen drive to the police three days ago. Considering these as evidence, the police registered a case of sedition against GP Singh.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel in GP Singh’s case clarified that the ACB has taken action only on the basis of documents, while a case has been registered against him only on the basis of the complaint.
