Performance of Indian athletes help India emerge as sports powerhouse: CM

Congratulations poured in on gold medalist Javelin Thrower Neeraj Chopra and Bronze medal-winning Wrestler Bajrang Punia for their commendable show at Tokyo Olympics 2020. 

Prominent among those who congratulated are Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Besides, leaders of the Ruling and the Opposition parties, and sportspersons of the state congratulated ace javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra and wrestler Bajrang Punia for winning gold and bronze medals in their respective events. 

Governor Anusuiya Uikey wished both Chopra and Punia for bright future. She said that India bagged two medals on a single day. It is a proud moment for the country. The hard work and dedication of these sportspersons have yielded results, said the Governor.

Chief Minister Dr Bhupesh Baghel said that Neeraj Chopra fulfilled the nation’s dream. Chopra has brought the first track and field gold medal to India. The feat of Chopra will inspire youths of the country, Baghel said, adding the nation is also proud and delighted on the achievement of wrestler Bajrang Punia. The performance of India at the Olympics will help the nation emerge as a new powerhouse of sports. Bajrang Punia won the Bronze in a 65 kg freestyle wrestling event. 

The sportspersons of the state said that Saturday, August 7, is a historic day for India. The historic gold also made the Tokyo 2020 Game India’s best-ever Olympics campaign, said the sports fraternity of the state.
