Raipur. Chhattisgarh has ranked second in the National e-Panchayat Awards for better use of ICT (Information & Communication Technology) in local self-government by three-tier Panchayati Raj Institutions. The e-panchayat award, given by the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj, to the better performing states by evaluating the effective use of ICT and e-applications in the panchayats. This award, given in three different classes, Chhattisgarh has jointly got second place in the first category (Category-I) with Assam. The Government of India confers the E-Panchayat Award every year to promote the use of ICT for transparency, efficiency and accountability in the work of Panchayats.
Panchayat and Rural Development Minister T.S. Singhdeo congratulated all the Panchayat representatives and departmental officers-employees for this achievement. He said that new communication and e-application technology have made the flow of information between the government and panchayats easier and faster. It is also helpful in the effective implementation of various government schemes and programs. Information technology has also facilitated the compilation and maintenance of public utility records and data in panchayats.
