Raipur: Chhattisgarh BJP on Wednesday staged a protest against the state government’s apathy towards farmers in Chhattisgarh.
The saffron party leaders have alleged that the state government is unable to procure paddy from farmers in a systematic way and the process has many lags in the state. During the protest party leaders and workers raised the slogan “Anndatao ko na tadpana, Kisaan ko do bardana” (do not torture food providers, provide gunny sacks to farmers).
The protest was held near Raipur Kamal Vihar Gate number 1. Former minister Rajesh Munat, former Raipur Rural MLA Nande Sahu, District President Srichand Sundrani and other party leaders were present on the occasion.
During the protest, BJP Kisan Morcha leader Gourishankar Shriwas said that the state government is negligent towards paddy procurement in the state. No such incident has happened in the state in the last 15 years, when the farmers have got, upset in this way. If the state government cannot handle the administration properly, Bhupesh Baghel should resign. He challenged that if the irregularities in the paddy procurement process are not removed, then the paddy will be disposed of in the houses of the ones responsible for this.
The saffron party leaders have demanded to re include cut off area in Girdawari and make immediate arrangements for gunny bags. Besides, they have also demanded that payment should be made to farmers within 3 days, the extension of paddy procurement time by 1 month, the bonus of 2 years as per manifesto, purchase of paddy from forest dwellers with forest rights lease and Rs 25 lakh to be provided to families of farmers committing suicide due to irregularities in paddy procurement.
Meanwhile, the paddy procurement process in Chhattisgarh is affected due to shortage of gunny bags. The state government claims gunny sacks couldn’t be arranged due to the closure of the jute mill during the corona pandemic. Meanwhile, BJP alleged that the state government is making various excuses to hide its failure. Similar protests were held in many places across the state including Durg, Patan, Kanker.
