Raipur based doctor sent to jail for giving expired injection to pregnant woman which led to her death eventually

Raipur: A Raipur based doctor has been sent to jail for giving an expired injection which led to the death of a pregnant woman.

After 13 year-long investigation and court proceedings, the victim’s family has finally got justice. The court of Judicial Magistrate First Class Satyanand Prasad found Dr Shakun Bagdi of Bagdi Nursing Home guilty of medical negligence and sentenced her to one-year imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

As per official sources, the incident occurred on the night of November 14, 2007, when Rupesh, a resident of Raipur, admitted her pregnant wife to the hospital for delivery. The next day, his wife was given a drip of glucose and an injection to ease the pain. On the same day, she was again taken to the labor room. At around 7.30, the doctor told Rupesh that his wife is having difficulty in breathing. The woman’s uncle rushed inside and found her dead. A case was registered in Kotwali police station and it was found during the investigation that the woman has died due to expiry injection.

RTI activist Sanjeev Aggarwal, who exposed the case, said that in an earlier case, Dr Shakun Bagdi has been imprisoned for one day. Aggarwal has now demanded the government to cancel her license. He said that many such similar cases are going on in courts and police stations. He has demanded to take strict action in such cases against the culprits at the earliest so that such negligence does not happen to any other person in future.
