Balconagar. Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with HelpAge India to deploy a Mobile Health Unit (MHU) to serve and aid citizens from 45 communities of Balconagar and nearby rural areas.

 

Abhijit Pati, CEO& Director – BALCO and Prakash Borgaonkar, Regional Head – HelpAgeIndia, exchanged the agreement forms on 6th October 2021. Pankaj Sharma, Dy. CEO – BALCO flagged off the MHUand dedicated it to the public.

 

The MHU, a van equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, will be managed by doctors and trained medical staff who provide free medical advice and awareness sessions to the local communities. The MHU is fitted with equipment for the diagnosis of common diseases like diabetes, hypertension, etc. For the elderly and those confined within their homes, the MHUshall also aid in medical treatment at home. Medicines will be available for common ailments free of cost. Besides providing doorstep healthcare services, the MHU shall also conduct regular health camps to spread awareness about the importance of nutrition and cleanliness, and various health schemes and programs run by the government. 


Abhijit Pati, CEO & Director, BALCO said, “BALCO has been instrumental in transforming the community health in the nearby villages and played a crucial role in prevention and control of COVID-19 in Korba district. The Vedanta Medical Research Foundation runs a state-of-the-art BALCO Medical Center for cancer treatment in Raipur, which benefits many people. Our BALCO Hospital at Balconagar is also providing various health facilities to the local communities. Our Mobile Health Unit will play an important role in providing doorstep healthcare services to rural communities.”

 

 Expressing his happiness over the partnership, Prakash Borgaonkar, Regional Head, HelpAge India, added, “HelpAge India is working towards providing healthcare facilities to over 16 lakh people in 23 states of India. This Mobile Health Unit, which we will operate with the help of BALCO, will be able to make medical facilities accessible even in remote areas.”
