Raipur: The excise department team has busted an interstate racket involved in illegal transportation of liquor and arrested three accused including one CRPF jawan.
Besides, the team has seized 7 cartons of Goa special wines along with foreign liquor of expensive brands and two vehicles used in illegal transportation of liquor, the value of all worth about Rs 9 lakh.
Deputy Commissioner of Excise Neetu Notani said that various complaints were being received against Manoj Khanna, a resident of Nehru Nagar, for a long time, that he is indulged in smuggling of liquor under the guise of a grocery store. An informant was sent to confirm the same. The excise team caught him red-handed soon after he left the house to sell a box of Red Label liquor containing 12 bottles in his black Activa. During the investigation at Manoj’s residence, a total of Rs 2.27 lakh of expensive liquor was found. The team seized the liquor and taken Manoj into custody.
During the interrogation by the excise team, Manoj informed that some people from Raipur are coming to give the liquor of Scotland to Bilaspur via Panipat. Based on the information, the team blocked Raipur-Bilaspur highway and caught white Santro carrying liquor. The two accused including CRPF jawan Ganesh Kumar and Vijay Arora tried to escape from the spot but the team managed to arrest them.
Neetu informed that the jawan is currently posted in CRPF Office of the Inspector General of Raipur. After being caught, he started pleading before the Excise Officers. Action is being taken against the three arrested accused under various sections of the Excise Act. She said that further investigations are underway and they are trying to catch the other big fish indulged in the racket.
