Raipur: About 78 per cent polling was recorded today in the by-election to the Chhattisgarh’s Marwahi (ST) assembly constituency. Voting began at 8am in 286 polling booths in the assembly constituency including 49 auxiliary polling stations, and concluded peacefully at 6pm.
As many as 1,376 polling personnel and 44 micro-observers were appointed for the by-poll and web casting of 29 polling booths were done. Keeping in view the Covid-19 pandemic, an option for voting through postal ballot were given to voters over 80 years of age, PwD voters and Covid positive voters as per the guidelines of ECI. As many as 1104 postal ballots were issued and 1068 voters exercised their franchise through postal ballot in the by-poll.
According to the service voter list of Marwahi assembly constituency, 198 service voters were issued ETPBS (e-Postal Ballot) electronically. Polling percentage till 6pm was 77.25% including 77.13% male, 77.36% females and 25% third gender.
As per the guidelines of ECI special arrangements were made for covid positive voters. Such voters were allowed to cast their ballot in the last one hour of voting following all the safety measures. Meanwhile, during the entire polling all the necessary covid 19 safety measures were undertaken by all to avoid spread of the infectious disease.
As many as 8 candidates are in fray from Marwahi (ST) assembly constituency where congress and BJP candidates are locked in a direct battle. The seat had fall vacant after the death of its sitting legislator and first chief minister of Chhattisgarh Ajit Jogi.
