Chhattisgarh Congress In-charge, P L Punia had to deboard his Delhi flight at Swami Vivekananda Airport Raipur and rush to Chhattisgarh Assembly on Monday afternoon. He had to immediately reach there after receiving information regarding the resignation offer by Health Minister T S Singhdeo owing to the dispute involving his name and the name of MLA Brihaspat Singh.
Punia reached the Chhattisgarh Assembly around 5 pm on Monday to settle the dispute between Health Minister Singhdeo and Congress MLA Brihaspat Singh.
The opposition BJP strongly raised the issue in the Chhattisgarh Assembly on the first day of the Monsoon Session. The conflict between T S Singhdeo and Brihaspat Singh reached Punia, who was about to fly to Delhi after completing his Raipur tour on Monday.
Even as Congress termed it as an internal matter of the party, the Opposition BJP is seeing it as a serious issue.
The State Congress In-charge Punia held a series of meetings starting from Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Congress MLAs Brihaspat Singh and Chintamani Maharaj at the Chief Minister’s Room in the Vidhan Sabha to Singhdeo. After some time, T S Singhdeo also reached the Chief Minister’s Room. Punia also held a discussion with T S Singhdeo for a longer period on the development that took place in the Assembly.
Earlier, to a query, Punia said, “This is an internal matter of the Congress party. We will solve this dispute. We will sit together and discuss the matter.”
Talking to the media about the incident, Brihaspat Singh alleged that T S Singhdeo wasn’t happy about his remarks favouring Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. Several other Congress MLAs were also at the press briefing. Meanwhile, reacting to this incident, Minister T S Singhdeo said, “Such behaviour is not acceptable from anyone, and the law must take its course. I have already told the SP that appropriate action must be taken.”
Earlier after the incident and the allegations levelled by Brihaspat Singh. TS Singhdeo had said that he has no issues with the MLA they were together in a meeting. He had said that perhaps the MLA has got emotional and made such a statement.
The issue is being blown out of proportion, said a Congress leader on condition of anonymity, as T S Singhdeo has no reason to have a grudge against the MLA. Reportedly, T S Singhdeo, aggrieved over his name getting dragged into an unwanted controversy, has offered to resign from the cabinet. But Chief Minister and the Congress In-charge have opposed any such move by the senior minister.
