Chhattisgarh: BJP Mahila Morcha organizes state-wide “Matrashakti Swabhiman March” against increasing crimes against women

Raipur: Chhattisgarh BJP Mahila Morcha organized a statewide protest “Matrashakti Swabhiman March” on Saturday against the increase in violence and crime against women in Chhattisgarh.

The saffron party has alleged that Bhupesh Baghel led Congress government is anti-women and negligent towards the surge in crime against women in the state. Besides, the government has failed to provide a safe environment for women. A large number of women leaders of BJP gathered at the demonstration site in Budha Talab of Raipur.

MP Saroj Pandey alleged that the Congress government is unable to provide protection to women. A 16-year-old girl of Pahari Korwa tribe was gang-raped in Korba district by 5 people. Her father and 4-year-old younger sister were also murdered. The girl was lying in the forest for 4 days and later died. The women of this girl's family were called to Raipur. MP Saroj Pandey called these women on stage and said that “we will finish the fight started by their daughter. Thousands of rape cases have been reported in the state so far. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel will have to account for every incident.”

Pandey said that Priyanka Gandhi would have reached if such an incident happened in UP. But when the incident happens in Chhattisgarh, it gets ignored. “I invite Priyanka Gandhi to come and raise her voice on the atrocities happening with the sisters here. Join us in this campaign. Why your soul died today. Does Priyanka Gandhi not see the pain of the Pahari Korwa daughter here?”, she added.

Former Minister Lata Usendi has claimed that 104 such cases have come up in Balrampur district within the last 9 months in which 79 are rape cases involving minor girls. Similarly, according to the statistics of the police department in Bilaspur, from January 1 to October 30, more than 6,000 crimes have been registered in 20 police station areas of the district. The Chhattisgarh government in the assembly admitted that 17,009 cases of robbery, robbery, murder, rape, and other crimes have been reported in the state from January 1, 2019, to January 31, 2020.

The government itself admits that 2,575 cases of rape have been reported during this period. If seen in this way, about 7 incidents of rape are coming up every day. Why Congress state president Mohan Markam is not speaking up about the issue of women. “Whenever the issue of women has raised these leaders run away, they escape. But now the women of the state will teach them a lesson”, she said.

Following the sit-in demonstration, a foot march was organized till Raj Bhavan to submit a memorandum to Governor Anusuiya Uikey. Police stopped the march near Sapre School. The women started their protest near police barricades. However, after a heated debate between BJP Yuva Morcha leaders and the police, the memorandum was handed over to the Governor by senior women leaders of BJP.
