Health min asks dept to remain alert during Holi, appeals people to follow precautions

Raipur: Chhattisgarh health minister TS Singh Deo has stressed upon the need to remain alert amid resurgence in coronavirus cases in the state and appealed people to celebrate the upcoming festival of colors with utmost precautions.

“The upcoming festival of Holi should not be celebrated in public, as it may increase new cases of corona. Besides, the health department should stay alerted ahead of the upcoming Holi festival”, said the health minister while addressing a press conference on Wednesday.

The minister said that as many as 5 new test labs are going to be opened for the corona testing. It is also being considered to impose a fine of Rs 500 against those who do not wear masks while stepping out in public places. He added that having a cricket tournament here could also be a reason for increase in number of corona cases.

Deo further added that the rate of corona infection has been 4.82 per cent. He said that he will review the situation of corona in 5-6 districts including Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Rajnandgaon, Surguja, and Jashpur. He said that the fresh batch of corona vaccine will arrive Raipur today and the target of vaccination has been set at 1.5 lakh people per day. However, less people are coming for vaccination against the target.

He said that about 30 per cent people have died within 24 hours of reaching the hospital; the situation in Chhattisgarh is worrisome. He asked the people to travel only in case of emergency.
