state govt simplifies process of issuing caste certificates to SC, STs and OBCs

Raipur: The process of issuing caste certificates to people belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes has been simplified by the Chhattisgarh government.

By issuing letters to the collectors of all the districts of the state by the General Administration Department of the state government, instructions have been given that under the provisions of the Chhattisgarh Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (Regulation of Social Status Certification) Act, 2013, if no documentary proof is available issue caste certificate, then the caste certificate should be issued by the Gram Sabha, validating the resolution made regarding the applicant's caste. Similarly, recognizing the declaration made by the Nagar Panchayat or the Municipal Council or the General Assembly as evidence in relation to the caste and the native, the caste certificate should be issued by the competent authority as per rules.

According to the letter issued by the General Administration Department, the Collectors have been instructed to direct the competent authorities subordinate to them to strictly follow the instructions given by the State Government regarding the issuance of caste certificates.
