Constitution of India was ashamed of after August 11 incident: Cong Rajya Sabha MPs from Chhattisgarh

Raipur: Recalling the ‘complete’ chaos during the Monsoon Session of Rajya Sabha on August 11, 2021, Member of Parliament from Chhattisgarh Phulodevi Netam said that the Constitution of India was ashamed on the day.

Briefing media persons, the Rajya Sabha said that the democracy of the nation is not safe in the country now as she burst into tears during the press conference at Rajiv Bhawan.

Another Rajya Sabha Member from Chhattisgarh Chhaya Verma said that the OBC Amendment Bill was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on August 11 and 16 Opposition parties including Congress demanded a discussion on some important issues such as Pegasus, Central Agriculture Act, and Inflation. But the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did not listen to anybody.  The Opposition parties supported the Central government to pass the OBC Bill in Rajya Sabha, the MP said.

Two bills including General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021 were suddenly moved by the Government of India in the Rajya Sabha on August 11, Verma said. The Rajya Sabha Members of the Opposition parties opposed the move to pass the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021 without taking the Opposition parties into confidence and the House as well.

As many as 42 male marshals were deployed on the front row in the House. The members of the Opposition parties were shocked to see the marshals inside the House. The Rajya Sabha members created ruckus in the House to oppose the Central government’s such act. When the members of the Rajya Sabha from the Opposition parties created ruckus, the male marshals pushed, Phulodevi Netam down, which she sustained minor injuries and she claimed that she tried to lift Phulodevi Netam.

Verma rubbished all allegations leveled by BJP MPs of the state against them in connection with the Rajya Sabha incident.

MP Chhaya Verma alleged that the BJP MPs are trying to defame the Congress MPs over this while they don’t have factual information.

Chhaya Verma said that the BJP government at the Centre should release the complete footage of the proceedings of August 11. The Central government released the footage of only a few seconds of proceedings.  The allegations of assault leveled by the BJP are false. If you watch the entire proceedings of the House, you will know the truth. The video which is being made viral by BJP is wrong. BJP should apologize for this, she said.

Chhaya Verma accused male marshals of pushing female members of the opposition parties in the Rajya Sabha.

State Congress President Mohan Markam alleged that the August 11 incident in Rajya Sabha was unfortunate. Female Congress MPs of the state were insulted in Rajya Sabha. Terming the BJP anti-woman, Markam said that the statement of BJP after the incident was even more shameful and due to this incident half the population of the country is insulted.
