Chhattisgarh reinstates IAS officer suspended in an alleged rape case

Raipur: The 2007 batch IAS officer and former Janjgir Champa district collector JP Pathak, who was suspended in an alleged rape case has been reinstated by the state government.

Meanwhile, after the transfer of IAS officer JP Pathak as Janjgir Champa district collector a woman accused him of rape in May last year. The woman had provided her WhatsApp chats to the police, based on which the police registered offenses against them under relevant sections. Following this, the General Administration Department issued an order in June to suspend the Pathak.

Pathak moved the High Court filing an application for anticipatory bail. The bench of Justice Arvind Singh Chandel granted anticipatory bail to Pathak stating that reading the entire case makes it clear that the FIR has been lodged late, which weakens the case and the fact of the case does not seem credible. After six months from the grant of anticipatory bail, the general administration department on Tuesday issued an order in compliance with the order issued by Central Administration Tribunal Jabalpur directing to immediately reinstate JP Pathak. As per the order issued, a separate decision will be taken regarding the suspension period.
