BJP sharply Questions the Government over Paddy Procurement.

Dispatch News.

Raipur. The Legislative Assembly was in a state of complete pandemonium today before the introduction of Agricultural Market amendment bill. BJP MLAs shouted slogans in the assembly demanding that the government purchase paddy from November 1. The House got adjourned for five minutes.

BJP MLA Shivratan Sharma said that this session was on farmer's issues. The Government will buy paddy from farmers from December 1 onwards, but the BJP allege that this will cause irreparable harm to farmers. They are demanding that the Government should start their purchase from November 1. Narayan Chandel added that "The Centre had directed States to purchase sixty metric ton, we ask the Government to buy twenty quintals per acre."

BJP MLA Ajay Chandrakar said, "The Government is supposed to give twenty-five hundred rupees per quintal, but they (farmers) have received only two instalments of the same. If the Government is serious about helping farmers, then they should start buying paddy from November 1." Brijmohan Agrawal declared that if paddy purchase gets delayed further, farmers will have to suffer a loss.

Dr Raman Singh added that the farmers have started harvesting. For the last fifteen years, farmers took their harvest to the Society. They are not in the habit of storing it at their homes. Leader of Opposition, Dharamlal Kaushik, said that "The farmers are not in the state to hold their harvest till December. They have yet to receive the twenty-five-hundred rupees owed to them."
