Raipur: The state government is gearing up electric crematoriums in various districts of the state amid terrifying surge in coronavirus cases and difficulty in performing last rites of people died due to Covid-19.
Keeping in view difficulties being faced by people and long wait for performing last rites of Covid-19 bodies, Urban administration minister Dr Shivkumar Dahriya has given necessary instructions to set up electric crematoriums in Raipur, Durg, Bilaspur, Korba, Bhilai and Risali Municipal Corporation.
Meanwhile, health minister TS Singh Deo has also written a letter to urban development minister in this regard stating that due to rise in number of Covid deaths, there is delay in performing last rites of the bodies. Videos related to this are also being viral which is destroying the image of state government.
The urban administration department has granted permission of 7 days to Raipur, Bilaspur, Korba and Bhilai and Durg, Risali Municipal Corporation Commissioners for issuing short term tender / EOI in this regard. Permission has already been given for electrical crematoriums at Raipur, Bilaspur, Bhilai, Korba, while a separate sanction of Rs 47 lakhs has been granted for the infrastructure item for Risali and Durg. The commissioners have been instructed by the department to ensure the process of setting up the electric crematorium at the earliest.
