Raipur: In a major action, the excise department team has busted out a fake liquor manufacturing unit in Raigarh district.
An excise official spokesperson informed that acting on a tip-off by an official informer, the excise team carried out a raid at a house in railway bangle para under Kotwali police station area on Saturday. During the raid it was found that some people were indulged in manufacturing fake high brand liquor out of cheap liquor brought from other states including Jharkhand and Orissa.
During the raid, the team seized over 199 liters of foreign liquor having a market value of about Rs 2 lakh, which is said to be from Orissa and Jharkhand. Apart from this, around 21,000 pieces of liquor bottles of various brands and 1,000 empty bottles were seized from the said house. In addition, a lidding machine was also seized from the spot. A case has been registered against the unknown accused and further investigations are underway, said the official.
Meanwhile, soon after receiving information about the case, DGP DM Awasthi suspended Sub Inspector RS Netam and ASI Rajesh Behera of Kotwali police station area with immediate effect due to negligence in duty. Along with this, show cause notices have also been sent to Raigarh Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) and City Superintendent of Police (CSP) in this case.
Assistant Commissioner Excise Manjushree Kasser, Assistant District Excise Officer Indra Bali Markande, Ramesh Kumar Aggarwal and Rakesh Rathore, Excise Sub Inspectors Ranjit Kumar Gupta, and Ashish Uppal along with other officials were present in the team.
