Janjgir-Champa. The Digambar Jain temple of Akaltara became the recent target of thieves. The robbers stole seventeen parasols of silver along with three idols of Ashtadhatu as well as all the cash kept in the donation box.

According to sources, the Digambar Jain temple of Akaltara was closed as usual on the night of Thursday, December 17. On the morning of Friday, December 18, the gardener reached the Sushil Sahu temple and tried to open the lock on the main gate, but was shocked on seeing the damage. The broken donation box with the coins strewn. Three idols of Ashtadhatu installed in the temple and silver parasols were also missing. The gardener immediately reported this to the people of the committee. The police team reached the scene on receiving the information. Given the seriousness of the incident, the policemen also called sniffer Dogs and Finger Print experts. Simultaneously, the police also examined the CCTV footage of the temple and surroundings for the details. The entire incident happened around 1 AM to 2 AM. 

A masked man entered the temple, from the upper floor instead of the main gate. Once inside, he broke the door from the inside and reached the inner sanctum. After breaking the lock of the donation box, he took out about two lakh rupees in cash and left the coins there. Besides the robbers also stole a total of seventeen parasols of silver and ashtadhatu-idols of Adinath, Shantinath and Siddha. The thief escaped after shoving all the stuff into a sack. The cost of a silver parasol of six kg is around four lakh rupees. Also, the price of Ashtadhatu idols is reportedly about ten lakhs. The police have registered a case against the unknown thief.
