Two people arrested in Mungeli for posing as journalists  and threatening forest officer

Raipur: Mungeli police has arrested two people posing as journalists for blackmailing a forest officer. 


The arrested accused had demanded Rs 1.40 crore from the officer posing a threat of CBI. The officer had also given Rs 90.5 lakh in installments to both. Being fed of giving money, the officer complaint regarding the incident to Mungeli SP.


As per police sources Mungeli range officer CR Netam range alleged that Paramvir Singh and Varsha Tiwari, who run a web portal called News24 threatened him that he will get caught in corruption case and fear of CBI investigation. They said that he would be arrested and sent to Andaman-Nicobar jail. To avoid arrest, the accused demanded Rs 1.40 crore. 


With this amount, these people bought a bullet, a swift car, a safari car, an Activa scooter, gold jewelry etc, said the police.


After being caught, reporter of News 24 Chhattisgarh web portal Paramveer Marhas said that he is just a pawn. The mastermind of the entire plan is Sartaj Irani. Police searched for him in Irani Mohalla Bilaspur but he has gone missing. While taking action, the police have recovered Rs 81.50 lakh in cash, apart from bullet, Activa, Safari car, Swift car, gold chain etc., the total value of which is being said to be Rs 25.50 lakh.


These people have spent the remaining amount. It is being told that Sartaj used to keep most of the money received from blackmail with himself, so only more recovery will be done if he is caught, the police said.
