Baikunthpur. A horrifying incident has come to the fore in the City Kotwali police station area. A man was burnt alive by his girlfriend after he refused to marry her.

After the incident, the youth got referred to Raipur in critical condition, where he died during treatment. The City Kotwali Police has arrested the accused mother-daughter in the whole case.

 The incident is from Talwapara of Baikunthpur city. On August 18, the youth Vedprakash Gupta was brought to the district hospital with 85 per cent burns in critical condition, from where the hospital immediately referred him to Raipur. The youth died on August 26 during treatment at the Kalda Hospital. After the incident, the relatives of the deceased complained to the City Kotwali police station. The police have arrested the accused, Pooja Pradhan, age 21 years and her mother, Pramila Pradhan, age 40 years, under section 302, 384 IPC.

After the complaint in City Kotwali, the police investigated the case and observed the last statement of the deceased. The young man had told that he was already friends with Pooja Pradhan, who lived in the neighbourhood. On the day of the incident, Pooja called the young man home; her mother was also home. Both of them demanded money and tried to force him into marrying her (Pooja Pradhan). When the youth declined to marry her and did not give them money, the girl and her mother drenched him with petrol and set him on fire.

Birendra Prasad Gupta, the father of the deceased, said at first, the girl kept pressurizing to get married, when we agreed to for marriage, the girl and her family refused to marry and threatened to implicate us in a false case. The son had also given them gifts worth three lakh rupees without any knowledge, but they kept demanding more. They wanted about ten lakhs.


After the incident, the accused mother and daughter had absconded, and the police constituted a team to find them. Last night, the team got news from the informer that the accused mother-daughter were seen in Talwapara. On this information, the police team arrested both of them. During interrogation, both confessed their crime. City Kotwali Police has sent the accused to jail on police remand.
