Raipur. Amitabh Jain is the new Chief Secretary of Chhattisgarh. He will be replacing R P Mandal, who retires on November 30. Born and brought up in Chhattisgarh, Amitabh Jain completed his education in Dalli Rajhara. A 1989 batch IAS officer, Amitabh Jain was previously handling ACS Finance.
The finance department is with the Chief Minister, despite the recession and the COVID crisis, the way Amitabh Jain kept the state budget under control and stable has influenced the CM. Apart from this, he is agreeable and excellent at his job. While working as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Finance, he has established a good rapport with Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel. In terms of merit and seniority, Amitabh Jain was the unquestionable choice.
Amitabh Jain might very well set a new record as Chief Secretary. His tenure is all set to be the longest till date. He will retire in 2025; no chief secretary has served a term of five years.
Amitabh Jain has earlier handled the responsibility of Special Secretary PWD, Director of Public Relations, Joint Secretary Industry Development Corporation, Commissioner Public Relations, Secretariat Textile and Commercial Tax. In 2006, Amitabh Jain went on Central Deputation. In 2013, he returned to Chhattisgarh and was made Principal Secretary Parliamentary Affair, and eventually promoted to ACS from 2018.
