Raipur: A petition has been filed before National Green Tribunal (NGT) Bhopal to ban the establishment of Maa Kudargarhi Steel Plant to be set up in village Tangargaon of Jashpur district.
The NGT has accepted the petition for hearing.
Advocate Ram Prakash Pandey, legal advisor of All India Tribal Suraksha Manch and seven others from Tangargaon and Hathgada has jointly raised various points under Section 14-1 and 2 of the National Green Tribunal Act in the petition filed before NGT Bhopal. The petition has been filed through Advocate Dilman Rati Minj.
It is stated in the petition filed that the report submitted by the company for the establishment of Maa Kudargarhi Steel Company in village Tangargaon contains misleading and incorrect information on several important points. Contradictory action has been taken regarding the notification in the company's report. For this the prescribed methods have not been followed. Also the entire Jashpur district is in the fifth schedule of the constitution. Despite this, neither the necessary legal procedure has been followed nor has the Gram Sabha been organized before the establishment of the company.
The issue has been specifically raised in the petition that Sarna, an important place of worship of tribals, is near the place where the action is being taken to set up the company. The faith of the adjoining tribals is attached here, and on various occasions, the tribals continue to perform puja at the place of Sarna. Even after this, the company is going to influence the Sarna site. This is a direct violation of the relevant Act. This area is the corridor for movement of elephants. Also, it is often a stronghold of extinct pangolins and snakes, but the company is going to set up a steel company by giving misleading information. In the petition, seeking a stay on the establishment of the company, stay has also been sought on the public hearing being held for the same on August 4.
