Bijapur:Congress government has betrayed the tribals
Villagers of 18 highly sensitive villages of Bijapur took to street alleging Congress government of Chhattisgarh of betraying them. The villagers, who took out a rally, alleged that the state government had promised to release innocent villagers serving jail on the charge of naxalism and now it has arrested three minor students on the same charges.
Two and a half years has passed this government took over, but it has not taken any initiative to set the innocent villagers free from jail. They said that police recently arrested three minor students and put them behind the car. The villagers also submitted a memorandum to the SDM addressing the Government in protest against the arrest of minor students.
Villagers organise mega rally
Villagers of naxal-infested villages Gangalur, Savnar, Todka, Palnar and others took out a mega rally which reached the district headquarters covering Mankeliroad and other villages. The villages staged demonstration demanding release of the minor students and other innocent villagers. They alleged that police arresting innocent people in the guise of naxaleradication movement.
Jail is overcrowded
In the memorandum to the Governor, villagers said that innocent villagers are being put in the jail which is already overcrowded. Inmates are being treated worse than animals in the jail, villagers wrote in the memorandum. Shortage of food and other basic amenities adding to woes in the jail.
Six-point demand of villagers
Cases on innocent villagers should be withdrawn.
Innocent villagers serving jail on the charge of naxalism should be released unconditional.
Timely food for inmates in the jail, proper clothes for them, medicine and proper treatment in case any inmate gets ill.
Family of inmates should be allowed to meet them and lawyers should be given permission to meet their clients in jail on time.
Government should stop life imprisonment punishment for tribals serving jail term.
Government should stop arresting innocent tribals on the charge of naxalism.
