Raipur: BJP MLA Shivratan Sharma put up a private resolution on a complete liquor ban from January 1, 2022.
After a discussion on the issue, the Opposition sought division of votes. While 13 votes were cast in favor of the resolution, 58 votes were cast against it. With this, the resolution was rejected in the House on Friday.
MLA Sharma said Congress had pledged on the holy water of Ganga before coming to power in the state that it will ban liquor if comes to power.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in response, said that MLA Sharma puts his words in a wrong way.
There was an uproar in the House on the issue.
Sharma said that crime has increased in the state due to drugs. When Congress had promised a complete ban on liquor in its manifesto, then especially women thought that now their problem would be over.
But even after two and a half years in Chhattisgarh, the promise was not fulfilled. There have been 898 murder attempts in Chhattisgarh, more than ten thousand have committed suicide. In the background of every crime is intoxication. Illegal liquor is being supplied in the entire state under government protection. What has become the situation in the state, said the opposition leaders.
The government's target is to earn Rs 5200 crore in a year.
Minister Mohd Akbar made a counterattack and said when the government of Delhi was formed, it was said that they would bring back black money from abroad, 15 lakh would be sent to accounts of all Indians.
Akbar mentioned the committees formed for the prohibition of liquor. On this, Leader of Opposition Dharamlal Kaushik said that even the meeting of the committee on the prohibition of liquor was not held. Akbar said that the political committee met on 19 August 2019. There was also a meeting of the Administrative Committee.
Names were sought from BJP, JCC, and BSP parties for the political committee, but were not given. Excise Minister Amar Agrawal of the previous government had said that complete prohibition is not successful anywhere.
Akbar said that complete prohibition was implemented in Manipur, Kerala, Tamil Nadu but did not succeed. At the time of Corona, many people died after drinking sanitizer and spirit. The state government has constituted three committees. Studies are in process for complete prohibition, he said
