Fire breaks out in Chirimiri mine after a landslide.

Dispatch News.

Baikunthpur. A fire broke out at the Baratunga opencast coal mine in the district's Chirimiri area at around 11 pm on March 12. Soon this fire took a horrific form. The fire started at the place of coal storage. The fire engulfed large areas, the workers are trying hard to extinguish the fire, but it seems impossible to control. Experts say that pouring water too fast to extinguish coal fires produces flammable gas and increases the fire. The best way might be to use mud on the fire. A private company in Chirmiri Baratunga OCP oversees removing the soil as a support for coal mining.

There are many areas in the region where the fire has been burning inside for years. Smoke is seen all over the area, but SECL management has no solution. Even after the landslide, there is no special arrangement on the situation, and lives are in danger.
