Raipur police launches special campaign to curb knife crime, 133 knives deposited in various police stations so far

Raipur: In a bid to curb incidents of knife attacks, Raipur SSP Ajay Kumar Yadav gave instructions to Raipur police officials concerned to keep a strict vigil on those who buy sharp and deadly knives from Amazon, Flipkart and other shopping sites besides taking strict action against people who carry or sale knives and sharp weapons illegally.

As a part of action plan prepared in this regard, list of 340 people residing in Raipur district who ordered sharpened and buttoned knives through Flipkart in the year 2018-19 was prepared. Additional Superintendent of Police Lakhan Patle directed all the station in-charge to summon the persons named in the list to the police station. An intensive investigation campaign has been started by the Raipur Police against the persons named in the list.

So far, 133 police knives have been deposited by different police stations in the campaign, out of which knives have been ordered by 69 minor children. The children along with their parents have been called at police station and were explained by the officials. Fearing the police operation, knife was broken by some people and family members and some people threw the knife at the pond and other places, information is being obtained from such people in writing. About 50 other persons named in the list have been contacted, who had gone out of Raipur due to the lockdown, and they will also come to Raipur after few days and deposit the knife.

Mobile numbers of some people named in the list are switch off. Efforts are being made to contact such people. The family of minor children coming to police station is praising the campaign of Raipur police.

The Raipur police have appealed citizens not to purchase other weapons like buttoned, sharpened and deadly knives from the online shopping sites and to cooperate with Raipur Police by giving information about the knives to curb the knife attack incidents in district.
