Tanzania. They say that we can only achieve our dreams if we see them with open eyes. An international mountaineer, Amita Shriwas, has done something similar. She has conquered Mount Kilimanjaro (5895 m), the highest peak in the continent of Africa. The mountaineering expedition of Mount Kilimanjaro started at 4 am (IST) on March 4; Amita Shriwas reached the peak on March 8 at 7:45 am; she is the first woman from Chhattisgarh to do so.
Born in a lower-middle family in Janjgir Champa, Amita has also won accolades in other sports at the national level. Amita's inspiration for mountaineering came from the state's first-ever Everest winner climber Rahul Gupta. For the last three years, under Rahul Gupta, she learnt the tricks of mountaineering. Amita said that she has won prizes in sports since childhood and is currently working as an Anganwadi worker in the Women and Child Development Department.
She especially thanked Dr Mahant Ramsunder Das of Shivrinarayan Math, and the district administration of Janjgir-Champa, for their support and encouragement in this campaign.
