Raipur. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's has given directed the distribution of blankets in the state. The blankets were for pregnant and lactating mothers and distributed through Anganbadi centres to protect infants and young children in forest areas from malnutrition and pneumonia. The Government is taking several multi-level measures to eradicate malnutrition from Chhattisgarh.
Given the high malnutrition rate among children in the forest and tribal areas, continuous efforts are being made through campaigns in these areas to eradicate malnutrition. Workers are distributing about fifteen thousand blankets to all the children of 0-6 years in all 556 Anganbadi centres of Narayanpur district. Besides, parents are also informed about Kangaroo Mother Care for the proper development of children. Children and their parents are happy to receive the blanket before the arrival of the monsoon. Parents have expressed their gratitude to the Chhattisgarh government. Under Mukhyamantri Suposhan Abhiyan, the administration distributed nutritious food to weak and anaemic women, lactating and pregnant women, and malnourished children.
The Naxal-affected Narayanpur district is part of the Dandakaranya forest area. The area has dense forests and rivers and is home to tribes like Gond, Halbi, Maria, Muria. From the first week of June till the end of winter, the weather here is quite cold. Due to the extreme cold climate, most children suffer from seasonal diseases like cold and flu during this period. Tribal communities brave the long periods of cold with bonfire. The smoke emanating from the bonfire further adversely affects the health of children and women. Hence, during this time, the energy from food consumed gets utilized in keeping the body warm instead of physical development. Under such circumstances, children become victims of malnutrition and pneumonia. The initiative to distribute blankets to children before the arrival of the monsoon will reduce the rate of pneumonia, malnutrition and mortality in children. Under District Mineral Trust Fund (DMF), provision of Rs 71 lakh for blankets by Khadi Gramodyog Board.
