Bilaspur. Public interest litigation was filed in the High Court on Friday to demand the running of passenger trains from Chhattisgarh and inclusion of general coaches in the special trains. The Division Bench of the Chief Justice has summoned the Central Government with an affidavit within three weeks. According to sources, Advocate Sudeep Srivastava has said in his PIL that since March the Central Government and Railways have stopped movement of trains across the country because of Coronavirus.
Since then, the Railways has started hundred-and-fifty-one special trains in the country. But, the removal of general bogies from all trains has disproportionately affected the poor in the state. They are unable to travel even for medical reasons. While the Center issued directive clearly states that under its Epidemic Act, anyone in the country can travel. After hearing the petition, The High Court has issued a notice to the Central Government demanding why the passenger trains are not running for the poor and those living in small cities? And why is there no general coach in the special trains that are running? The court has summoned the Central Government with an affidavit within three weeks.
