Raipur. Eighty-four days after the vaccination drive started in the country, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu got their first dose of the COVID vaccine. Both reached the vaccination centre at Raipur Medical College today and got the vaccine. The state government had some differences with the Center regarding Covaxin. The Government of Chhattisgarh had stopped the use of Covaxin in the state. The government had announced that the third phase of this vaccine trial was incomplete. In such a situation, they cannot take the risk of administering it to the people.

The Central Government has allowed vaccination to those above the age of 45 from April 1. The Chief Minister is 59 years old and was waiting for his age group. The Chief Minister was in Assam supporting the Congress and returned after the Bijapur Naxal attack. Yesterday, after the safe release of CRPF jawan Rakeshwar Singh Manhas, the Chief Minister scheduled his vaccination. Health Minister TS Singhdeo, MLA Kuldeep Juneja, Additional Chief Secretary of Health Department Renu G. Pillai, Dr Priyanka Shukla, Nodal Officer of Corona Vaccination were also present during the vaccination of the Chief Minister.

Shortly before the Chief Minister reached the medical college, Home Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu and his wife Kamla Sahu also got the vaccine. The use of the Covaxin started last month after central agencies removed it from trial mode. Therefore it is used rarely.

The vaccination campaign started in the state on January 16. In the first phase, health workers, Mitanins, Anganwadi workers, police, revenue administration officers and employees received the vaccine. From March 1, those above 60 years and those suffering from serious diseases, more than 45 years of age, were also added. 

Health Minister TS Singhdeo is yet to receive the Corona vaccine. He contracted the coronavirus infection last month. Doctors have stated that one can take the vaccine after few days of recovery. On the doctor's advice, the health minister is still waiting. He has talked about getting a Covaxin.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel yesterday demanded the COVID vaccine for all adults who are 18 years of age. The Chief Minister has sent his formal request to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In an online meeting with the Prime Minister, the Chief Minister had also requested a week's vaccine shipment in advance to remove shortages.
