Raipur. In the 75th year of independence, keeping with the values, principles, ideals of freedom struggle and Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of Gram-Swaraj intact, the government will establish a Seva gram in Nava-Raipur on the lines of Wardha. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and Rahul Gandhi’s advisor, Sachin Rao, inspected the site for the Seva Gram today.

During the inspection, the officials said that 76.5 acres of land is set aside for Sewa Gram. The place is adjacent to Layer One of Naya Raipur. Its architectural style will give a glimpse of the traditional rural building style of Chhattisgarh. They plan to construct using locally available materials. The roads inside the ashram will also be in harmony with the rural environment. The entire area will be full of greenery till the service village. The whole atmosphere of the ashram will provide inner peace. Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, Forest Minister Mohammad Akbar, MLA Devendra Yadav, Additional Chief Secretary Subrata Sahu, Special Secretary Agriculture Dr S. Bharathidasan, Chief Executive Officer of NRDA Dr Fakir Bhai Ayyaz Tamboli, Director Industries Anil Tuteja, Raipur Collector Saurabh Kumar were also with him.

To strengthen the rural economy and to realize the dream of a self-reliant village, a provision will also be made to train artisans. Instructions have been given to prepare an action plan in this regard before 02 October 2021 for the establishment of Seva Gram. The project takes its inspiration from the Seva Gram located in Wardha, Maharashtra, established in 1936 as the residence of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife, Kasturba Gandhi. This Wardha institution was also the centre of the reconstruction of rural India. Gandhiji believed that only reform at the village level could permanently improve the conditions of India. Seva-Gram is being established in Nava-Raipur to carry forward the work of village reform. 

 

Centres of Gandhian principles, rural arts and crafts will be developed in the proposed Seva Gram, where guidance will be given by visiting subject experts. It will also have an Old age home and schools for the underprivileged. Its objective is to empower the local people by increasing tourism opportunities, promoting the folk arts of Chhattisgarh, giving a second home to the elderly and creating a system in Chhattisgarh for ideological exchange. The proposed Visitor’s Center in Sewa-Gram will be a centre for learning and cherishing Gandhi’s principles.

 

Chhattisgarh is known for its distinctive arts and crafts. In Bastar, Raigarh and other districts of Chhattisgarh, various artistic objects made bell metal, iron, terracotta, stone, cloth and bamboo. Seva Gram will also have an open theatre where cultural programs will be held.
