Family alleges custodial death of JE in Surajpur

Raipur: A murder suspect arrested on Monday, died at hospital under mysterious circumstances in Surajpur district late on Tuesday, triggering a rage among family members who are making serious allegations of custodial death.

Latori police station in-charge along with 9 police personnel of the station has been line attached in the death case of JE posted in electricity department Poonam Singh Katalam.

A youth named Harishchandra Rajwade died on Sunday night after the drunkards got into a brawl after the liquor party at Karwan substation under Latori police station area. The body of the deceased was found lying outside the substation. Four people including JE Poonam Katalam were identified as the murderers after police interrogation.

One of the accused, Poonam Katalam, was rushed to the hospital around 4 pm where he died. Police claimed that accused Poonam Katalam was not brought to the police station and his condition was getting deteriorated during the interrogation only.

However, the family members who arrived to collect the body had denied the police claim. The deceased's brother told the media persons that he was beaten up badly in the police custody. Besides, the post mortem report of the deceased states the cause of death as “cardiac arrest”.  

Police station in-charge Sunil Singh, principal constables Guddu Kushwaha and Manoj Porte along with constables Sunil Ekka, Shobhanath Kushwaha, Vikas Mishra, Devdutt Dubey, Chandrasay Rajwade, and Maneshwar Singh has been line attached in the case.
