"We will not allow the use of the under trial vaccine on any citizen in Chhattisgarh", says Health Min TS Singh Deo

Raipur: Chhattisgarh health minister TS Singh Deo on Saturday said “we will not allow the use of the under trial vaccine—Covaxin—on any citizen in Chhattisgarh”.

Clarifying the state government’s stance on the use of Covaxin, the health minister said that the government will not use the consignment of Covaxin sent by the central government as of now because it is still under trial.

“A letter of consent has also been sent by the center with the Covaxin from which it is clear that if someone is receiving the dose of this vaccine, it’s on their own risk. This is not the case with Covishield vaccine. After the completion of all the trials of Covishield, its supply has been started. However, I don’t understand why there is so much hurry now? We can wait for few more days”, he said.

The health minister said that the emergency authorization of the Covaxin has been received; however, currently there is no emergency of any kind in Chhattisgarh. “In such a situation, after the completion of the trial I am ready to get the first dose of Covaxin, but it shouldn’t be used until the trial is going on”, he added.

The minister said that so far, nearly three lakh health workers in Chhattisgarh have been registered in the CoWIN portal. In which 62, 107 people have been identified so far and have been vaccinated with Covishield. At the same time, about 250 doses of Covishield have deteriorated in the state.
