Raipur: With the rejection of nomination papers of husband-wife duo Amit Jogi and Richa Jogi, Marwahi (ST) constituency which has been a stronghold of the Jogi family will witness polls without Jogis for the first time.
The nomination of both Amit and Richa Jogi was rejected by the Election Officer due to the rejection of their caste certificates.
Amit's caste certificate was revoked by the state-level higher inquiry committee. The scrutiny of nomination papers was completed at the District Election Office on Saturday. The High Power Committee had sent a letter to the election office regarding cancellation of Amit Jogi's caste certificate and did not consider him to be of Kanwar caste. The order was issued a day earlier on October 16. The committee has earlier canceled the caste certificate of Amit Jogi's father and former chief minister Ajit Jogi.
After an hour of debate Amit Jogi’s nomination was rejected by the election officer. Besides, as per sources, the election officer also did not considered Amit’s request to grant him two days’ time for clarification.
Amit Jogi on Saturday shared a picture of a register page showing that order of the high power committee was delivered to him after the cancellation of his nomination. He captioned the tweet as “order to revoke caste proof, sent to my house today 2:30 pm Saturday, after canceling my nomination!”
In yet another tweet he wrote “Last night, the High Level Caste Scrutiny Committee revoked my certificate. The news of this known to everyone except me! I asked for time to read it, he did not even give it! Katil hi Munsif hai, Kya Mere Haq Me Faisla Dega.”
Meanwhile, apart from Congress, Urmila Marco from Gondwana Ganatantra Party and Independent Pratap Singh Bhanu also objected Amit Jogi’s nomination to contest in the Marwahi by polls. All three had a copy of the order of the state level inquiry committee, in which Amit Jogi's caste certificate was revoked.
As many as 19 nominations were filed on the last date for Marwahi (ST) by polls which is going to be held on November 3. Congress has fielded Krishna Kumar Dhruv while BJP has fielded Dr Gambhir Singh.
