Raipur: Chhattisgarh health minister TS Singh Deo has requested union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan to halt supply of Bharat Biotech’s COVAXIN due to its inhibitions regarding the incomplete third phase trials.
Health minister TS Singh wrote on his official Twitter handle on Thursday “Wrote to hon'ble union minister of health @drharshvardhan ji addressing the concern of Chhattisgarh govt regarding the supply of COVAXIN to the state”.
He stated in the tweet that the primary concerns of the state are the inhibitions regarding the incomplete 3rd phase trials of COVAXIN and absence of expiration date on the vials of the vaccine.
Singh Deo has requested the union health minister to halt the supply of COVAXIN to Chhattisgarh until these issues are addressed to the satisfaction of state health department to avoid the wastage of the early expiration doses of the drug.
Meanwhile, in yet another letter addressed to the union health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, state health minister wrote “I have already shared with you the concerns among the community in general, regarding the use of COVAXIN. We would be more than happy to vaccinate our beneficiaries with COVAXIN doses, once the results of clinical trials of phase 3 is completed and shared.”
“I will reiterate that kindly do not have COVAXIN sent for now, as the vaccines will not be useable generally being under emergency clinical trial. I would therefore request you to kindly reconsider the decision to further supply COVAXIN to the State of Chhattisgarh so that the early expiry vaccine doses are not wasted”, he added.
