Raipur. General Secretary of Chhattisgarh Olympic Association, Gurcharan Singh Hora, left on Monday to lead Chhattisgarh in the Tokyo Olympics. He said that the first batch of Indian athletes for the 32nd edition of the Olympic Games organized by Japan landed in Tokyo on Sunday. The 2020 edition of the Summer Games, which got postponed until 2021 due to the coronavirus crisis, is set to begin in Japan's capital next week. India has assembled its largest contingent of athletes for the 2020 edition of the Summer Games in Tokyo.
India had named a 228-strong contingent for the Tokyo Olympics consisting of 119 athletes, of whom 67 male and 52 are female participants. World champion shuttler PV Sindhu, six-time world champion boxer MC Mary Kom, Amit Panghal, archer Deepika Kumari, TT superstar Manika Batra and men's and women's hockey teams reached the sports village.
The much-awaited opening ceremony of the Tokyo Games 2020 will take place on Friday (July 23) at the newly built National Stadium in Japan.
The closing ceremony will take place on August 8.
