Raigarh. After starting the procurement of paddy at twenty-five hundred per quintal, because of some discrepancies, the district has suffered a loss of five crores. The figure is reportedly as high as hundred-and-nine crores for the state. Till now the government has not received about 20,489 quintals of paddy, even after payment.
For the first time, in the last five years, a loss of about five crores is reported in the district. The Paddy Procurement Policy clearly states that the shortage of even one quintal of paddy in the procurement centres is invalid. Yet, in the year 2019-20, the committees have indulged in corruption, which the administration has failed to stop. The deficit of about twenty-one thousand quintals of paddy in the district is the focus; the paddy was recorded but not found materially. Committees had a chance to make up for it but to no avail. After a lot of hard work, the government had successfully created a policy where the paddy procurement centres had zero shortage; but now yet again, the system has become a mess.
In the case of paddy shortage, Raigarh district is at number eight in the state where there is a total loss of five crores twelve lakh twenty-two-thousand-five-hundred. The administration is preparing to take drastic measures to compensate for such a huge loss.
